 ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR CASES FOR AAVLD DIAGNOSTIC PATHOLOGY SLIDE SEMINAR

AAVLD Annual Meeting Diagnostic Pathology Slide Seminar

Saturday, October 19, 2013, San Diego, California, 3:30-5:45 pm

Submission Deadline: July 1, 2013

Anatomic and clinical pathologists are invited to submit cases for the Diagnostic Pathology Slide Seminar at the 2013 AAVLD meeting. Necropsy, surgical pathology, or cytology cases that are challenging or emerging disease entities are solicited. Graduate students and residents are encouraged to present.

Presentations are 5 minutes in length, with another 3 minutes for discussion. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to Dr. Marcia Ilha by July 1, 2013. Cases are reviewed as submitted; case submission will close early if presentation slots (16) are filled.

Style and format: Only one page per abstract please. Please use one inch margins, Times New Roman 11 pt font, center and bold title, center authors (full first name and last name) and affiliations below the title, bold presenter’s name. Examples are available via the 2010-2012 slide sessions abstracts posted on the annual meeting page.

Presenters of accepted abstracts must supply a set of 65 H&E glass slides for necropsy and surgical pathology cases. Cytology cases should consist of as many glass slides as are available and if less than 65 slides then a series of high quality digital images that are representative of the case. The slide materials should be submitted to Dr. Tim Cushing by September 1, 2013 to allow for distribution and review of slides by attendees before the meeting. Presenters are entitled to a set of slides at no charge. Sponsoring laboratories of presenters are also entitled to a set of slides. The additional slide sets will be available, on a first come-first serve basis, for a $50 donation to the Pathology travel fund of the AAVLD Foundation. A few slide sets from 2010, 2011, and 2012 conferences are still available for purchase.  Please contact Dr. Marcia Ilha if you are interested.

To reduce the chances of delays or file incompatibility, presenters will need to provide in advance (at least one hour before the beginning of the session) the Power Point file of the presentation as indicated in the Annual Meeting web page for oral presentations. A flash drive will be available at the AAVLD meeting front desk. Indicate that your presentation is for the Diagnostic Pathology Slide Seminar. Please label your file with the case number (to be provided when your case is accepted) followed by your last and first names (e.g., 8 SMITH Joe). Sending the Power Point files by email several days in advance to the moderators is also acceptable.
